House Update: I'm blue

I'm not, but our bathroom is.

Sometimes when I get excited about things I just want to do it. Forget the prep work, I just want to skip ahead to the fun part. Ehhhh that's not really the best idea, especially when painting one accent wall navy blue. The wall was jacked up, I'll admit it. This is why I should listen to Dave. He's smart and calculating and takes his time with things, which really means that we don't have to go back and fix stuff. But I was in charge of painting and I jacked it up (you really should take the time to painters tape the edges and walls and stuff). So Monday we had professional painters come in to fix the wall and to paint the rest of the bathroom. I really love how it turned out. Not only did they fix my navy blue wall but they painted the aqua color for a more pulled together look overall.

It's funny how we're still putting finishing touches on the house here and there even though we've been in the house about 8 months now. I'm so glad we decided to add some color to this bathroom and not just have one wall with paint on it. It feels finished now. Next, to finish the wet bar. Slow progress there.

House Update: wet bar

Well we finally settled on the first contractor for the wet bar. I wrote about the design here. We went back and forth between people but in the end really loved the first design and was willing to hound these guys for a call back. Kind of sad that we've had to do this with people to take our business, but oh well. Anyway, we settled on a cabinet color, design, and this past weekend Dave and I went to pick out our granite.

It's been a kind of annoying process so far, so I really hope we are happy with the finished product. Monday my Momma was amazing and stayed at our house pretty much allllllllll damn day so the cabinets could get delivered and the guy could come and start putting them together. She was back at our house on Tuesday for the rest of the delivery. Dave is working from home today so that they can finish putting the cabinets together and install them. But before they do that they have to move up one outlet so it's counter height. Hopefully all the cabinets will be done today and then we can schedule them placing the granite counter top.

I created my little wish list of items we'll need to accessorize the bar. Basically we need a crap ton of drink glasses. I see an Ikea run in our future since they sell sets of glasses at a really reasonable price. I'm sure once the bar is done we'll put more thought into what we actually need. And we're not really the couple to keep any liquor in the house, so it'll be interesting to research what we "should" have on hand. It's kind of funny that Dave and I are putting in a wet bar as we're not big drinkers. There's hardly ever any alcohol in our house and even when there is we never drink it. Hopefully this will give us an excuse to invite new friends over and have a cocktail or two. Maybe while playing Cards Against Humanity-to soften the blow of what awful people we are laughing at those cards.

UPDATE:
I guess I won't be needing such a large Ikea trip as my Dad just emailed me after reading my post, that he has a "shit ton" of glasses he will bring me. Thanks Dad!

 

 

a homey feeling

Since moving our living room furniture around, our space has felt much more homey. It seems less cold (even without our rug while it's off being cleaned from Finley's accident) and much more cozy. I love that the area seems to be a space of it's own now. It's a hard thing to do with such an open floor plan. We picked up our console table on Saturday and placed it behind the couch which really anchors everything together. Dave and I had some luck at Home Goods picking up little knick knacks for the table. I adored this starfish as soon as I saw it and Dave was all about the boxes and adding more yellow to the room. I of course took a trip to Target to try and find lamps for our end tables. I bought two tan ones but am returning them because they were just a little blah. I ended up ordering these yellow ones from Target since they didn't have them in store and we will figure out the lamp shade part when they get in. Luckily I found a little half yellow vase from Target as well that added a little extra pop of color. I'm not sure whether we'll add more picture frames to the table quite yet or not, but until we get less lackadaisical with our picture taking I won't be placing any more empty frames there.

We're still waiting on our rug to be returned, and once we have some lamps it'll feel a lot more put together. Forgive my pictures as I took them with my iphone. I think I know what I'll ask for for Christmas this year. A DSLR camera and a photography course. Because these iphone pics really don't do the space justice

new arrangement

Yes, this is our new living room arrangement. I may have drawn it in Paint yesterday to explain to my friend Nicole how we moved things around. She doesn't know the difference because she hasn't been to our house yet. Well, she's been there but it was being built so it doesn't count. I'm sure that this beautiful image will prepare her for her seating choices when she comes to visit in July.

In case you have no imagination I'll be taking some real pictures this weekend.

We're waiting on our console table to be delivered for behind the couch, and our rug to be cleaned after Finley had an accident on it this past weekend. He's doing much better after going to the vet and getting some medicine for his upset tummy. Poor guy.

And no, unfortunately those two chairs by the Master Bedroom are not beanbag chairs. I wish we were that cool.

come drink with us

The only thing (other than the backyard and the 2nd guest room-hopeful future baby room) that needs to be finished is the bar area on the second floor. Dave and I had a couple people come out to draw up some plans for the space. We decided to go with the more elaborate plan even though it's more expensive. I think it'll really make the Man Cave floor come together and I'm excited to have it started. This weekend I went and picked out the cabinet color-espresso. Dave was supposed to come with me but Finley foiled our weekend plans by pooping on both our rugs (tummy problems), so he had to stay home and wait for Stanley Steemer.

We knew we wanted a few things when we first started:

• a sink (the builders did the plumbing rough in)
• mini fridge
• wine rack

Other than that, we weren't too particular so when we saw this drawing we were more than thrilled. And don't think that because it says man cave wet bar that there won't be plenty of margaritas being made. If this sexiness doesn't get Dave's buddies to visit I don't know what else will. I'll promise a stocked bar, old school drinking games, and no clean up. Come visit!

Our garbage can isn't in the middle of the room anymore.

Weird title I know. But I'm seriously stoked that our garbage can is in a normal spot and not the focal point of the kitchen eating space. It was helpful however for 4 months that Dave and I didn't walk into our hanging light fixture, but geeze was it an eyesore. The downstairs is finally all put together (ok not really we have one completely empty room). I'm excited for the new kitchen table and hope that Dave and I will sit down more with each other rather than side by side at the bar or on the couch. I don't know how we STILL manage to eat in front of the tv sometimes when we have multiple tables to eat at. 

 

Our upstairs couch gets delivered Wednesday so the man floor will be mostly done. I think we need a poker table up there or something for Dave and his buddies. And then we can start saving for the bar we eventually want to have put in. And then maybe we can paint....oooh there I go getting carried away again.

House-update

I really need to get better at bringing my actual camera along with us so you guys can have better pictures. Sorry about that, but these will have to do for now. We stopped by the house this past weekend to see the progress that has been made and it was a huge difference from when we last were there. Dave and I wore our hard hats (given to us by the builders) and walked around our house. Having the inside framework up made such a major difference in being able to picture our living space. 

Here I am standing in my massive closet!!!! A girls dream! I'm sure it's the only time other than standing in it with me that you can tell from pictures how big it is.

We're hoping the weather cooperates for the next few weeks so they can get more done on the house. It's so exciting and Dave and I are having fun talking paint colors, island lighting, etc.
