blog humor

{it's a horse with roller skates on.}
The thing I like being called most is funny (besides kind and Sandra Bullock's twin). My family must hold being funny in high esteem as well because we'd always rank ourselves, my dad always claiming that he was the funniest and I was the second funniest. Sometimes my sister would get the second funniest slot, but it wouldn't last long.

But here's the thing with blogland, I don't know how I come across. To those that read and personally know me they can hear how I'm saying things or know the back story to something, so it might be funny to them. However, Joe schmo coming across my blog may just view me as rude (it's sarcasm), not funny, or inappropriate. For the record though, I am all those things. I can't plan to be funny and when I read Mindy Kaling or Jenny Lawson's books I can't help but be jealous of them and their ability to come off so funny in their writing. I think I'm funny. In conversations with people I always get a laugh but you see my problem is I can't plan it. Writing my Matron of Honor toast for my best friends wedding I wanted it to be sentimental, heartfelt, with some funny in there to break up the tears. I couldn't do it. Thankfully stuff came to me while I was giving the speech and people laughed but I'm not sure if it was me, or the booze, or the fact that I introduced myself as Megan (the bride) when I'm in fact Lauren. I think that  mishap was more from the dirty Shirley's than anything else, but I digress.

I guess the point is, I don't know how to be funny in my writing. I hope you guys are picking it up when I try, but who knows. I also know I have a twisted sense of humor since Cards Against Humanity cracks me up.

This post started from one Gchat conversation with my dear friend Tera. To preface, she bought a knife for her husband as a wedding gift.

Tera:  I wonder if Nathan's gift will be extra special now that I cut myself with it
bound by blood
that's my blog name

I laughed so hard, and then I wondered if I was funny in my blog. #Laurencentric

  3. I think you're funny! I had the same thoughts recently because I feel like I'm funny in person but totally not on my blog. I'm cracking up about you saying you were Megan...I did a similar thing not too long ago and can't stop laughing about it. I met my friend Luke's girlfriend, Laura and for some reason I said, "Hi Laura! I'm Luke" and then totally pretended like that's not what I said. Probably much funnier in person, but I know the feeling you had :)

  4. I think you're funny! I love reading your blog and honestly if it was boring and not funny I wouldn't read it. You just keep doing you and keep rocking it!
