food for thought-contentment

{me and my sweet friend Katie}
I've written before that my friend Katie and I are reading the same devotional, and sometimes I'm so hit by one of readings that I have to share it.

We brought nothing into the world, so we can take nothing out. But, if we have food and clothes, we will be satisfied with that.
1 Timothy 6:7-8

The devotional reading said: "Contentment is a difficult virtue, why?"

"Because there is nothing on earth that can satisfy our deepest longing." The author then went on to say that we aren't satisfied. We will never be satisfied in this life because we are not made for this world. He says that "we long to see God." and "we won't be satisfied until we do."

My thoughts on the reading that I sent my friend Katie was; "Why do I always long for something else, for something more. It's because NOTHING of this world (marriage, kids, perfect job) will satiate me. I need to spend more time with God and maybe I would feel more satisfied in my day to day life. Good one today...very thought provoking."

I need reminding especially in today's world of social media where we can all see everyone else's "perfect" lives, bloggers that make me feel less than because I don't have ootd (outfits of the day) or beauty shots, and friends that are different stages of life.

I pray that I spend more time with God, developing the most important relationship I have than worrying about clothes, decorating our soon to be house, or any other earthly things. I know I'm human and a sinful creature so I will fail over and over but I'm going to make more of an effort to go to Him and know he will take care of me and that all these things I seem to dwell on.

  1. Awesome food for thought.. i think that the idea of 'contentment' (or lack of it) is a big thing in life that steals our joy. It's encouraging to know that other people deal with this issue, and it empowers me to know that we can help each other out along the journey... making sure we ALL enjoy EVERY season that we are in. Thanks for the words of wisdom this morning :)
